Myanmar Travel - The preparing Part 3, Roaming

 : Mobile phone and the currency exchange is inevitable thing when you travel abroad. If you don't use that, it's OK. But if you are a owner of a mobile phone at least you have to halt the phone service for the while. If you plan to use roaming service, you have to apply for that before going abroad.

 And then currency exchange... It's also not that simple.... especially to Koreans... Because won currency are not able to use for currency exchange in many countries... Of course, in Thai, it's OK even if you bring Korean won...

 What to do

 1. Stop the 'roaming data service' before departing.

 2. Cancel incoming call if it's not important. And if you need to call, buy a local sim card. It's more cheaper than using the roaming service.

 3. SMS receiving is free... So use it... But sending SMS costs much. 

 4. In case you don't need to use any cell phone, Just pause the service... This can be better option.

    - In case the monthly fee is more than 70,000 won, you'd better pause the service during the travelling. While you traveling, you cannot use your free call and SMS. 

  Therefore, you'd better use all the left call and SMS as much as you can before departing.

1	Let's find the details.

: Fortunately, we can see how much money I am going to pay when I use roaming service... on the LG uplus website. It was huge. 

I calculated the fee with the free minutes and the service with my current plan, about 30,000 won per month

: Do you see the price? 9.8 million won? Almost it's for the Data. In case you used about 977 MB for 27 days, you are going to pay 9.1 million won. Approximately 10,000 won per 1MB. Does make sense? And the following is without the data.

After deleting data usage

: And 720,000 won.... Damn... This is for 2 year when you subscribed for 30,000 won plan.

The following is when I minimized.. the usage...

: And...even though... it's about 290,000 won. And it's without the Tax. I think 100,000 won is a reasonable price...  

2	Checking roaming service and data blocking

: Roaming service blocking is done not by homepage(web site), but done by phone. Therefore you need to call 114. And then you are going to get SMS confirming your data roaming service is blocked.

And checking roaming service is possible in the country you go

: And this is what to do when you want to use Roaming service. And you can check if you can use the roaming service with your current phone.

Click on the '로밍안내'

And then select options applied.

And the you can see the results like following.

: For roaming service blocking, you should call first... call 114.

 And the cautions are followings. 

 - SMS receiving is free

 - Your subscribed plan is not applied.

 - When it goes above 100,000 won, it blocks the roaming service automatically.
