Seongsanilchulbong - A little bit disappointing

It's one of the UNESCO Natural Heritages in Jeju... I guess it represents Jeju... But when I got there, I was disappointed...

1

 Seongsanilchulbong

Just FYI, Seongsan is a name and ilchulbong means 'peak of sunrise'. So Seongsan ilchulbong means "Seongsan Sunrise Peak".

It is the 1st rank of 'things to do' in Tripadviser. After knowing this, I expected something... which turned out to be disappointing. On the summit, it wan't that good than I expected... Rather the wide field before the mountain was very good to me...

On the top of the mt., it was a regular mt. to me, not special. I might choose a wrong season... In Summer, it might be better with all green.

Location

There is a temple before getting there... As a foreigner you might be interested in it... Korean? not that interested as a tourist.

Entrance fee for the mountain is 2,000 won(About 2 USD). In foreign countries, it might be more expensive if it is a major tour attraction... But it's not in Korea.... Usually we think it should be free.

It's the ticket for two people... If you order ticket for more than 2 people, you are getting only 1 ticket for many... I guess it is for saving paper.

I guess, it is better for observation spot, not the nature. You can see the city, Seogwipo there and also sea surrounding. Actually I expected to explore the top of the mountain but it was blocked...

At the top... and after coming down...

: As you see on the top, it looks like a regular mt. field, not special at all... I thought I could walk on the field but it was blocked.

: In terms of the preservation, it would be a good measure to block it. With my reasoning, they decided to block it due to lots of uncontrolled visitors, especially from China. They had to limit the number of the visitors... but they didn't... They preferred profit....

It was a little disappointing... and climbing it was a little hard...due to steep path to the summit... And the next day, I climbed MT. halla, which was a big mistake.... I should have rested before going to the mountain halla.

Saryeoni Forest Path, failed to get there...

I found this place by looking at a map... This was after looking over the coast in Jeju therefore this time I wanted to try a forest inland... But I chose a wrong season, time... when the road or path was covered with snow.... You'd better go there from April...

1

 Saryeoni Forest Path

I don't know the meaning of Saryeoni(사려니), which is the name of the forest path. According to a encyclopedia, it means "surrounding something with hands so that it cannot be spread". The summit of the path is surrounded by a stones, which is the reason why it has the name. But it's not official.

Even the island is not that big and wide, don't under-estimate the time to be taken while travelling. But I haven't considered there are many spots to visit... So I wouldn't be able to see everything there... I suggest to hurry up... starting early in the morning...

Saryeoni forest path is far from Saryeoni parking lot, which is free. But the path was covered with snow... And there is no good point for parking on the road and the way...

The picture below is taken on a golf site, which was covered all with snow...

I drove the load between the parking lot and the entrance several times... to find a good place to park.... And I had to park on the parking lot. And I asked other travellers about the path... they told me that they had to return because of the snow.... And I decided to give up.

 Alternative...

: Instead of going there, I decided to walk around the forest just beside of the paved road, which was not bad...

: The forest was full of the tall trees like the pictures above...

Pictures of Jeju Coast, Part 1

The beaches and coast are best thing in Jeju in my opinion. Mountains and the nature, forests were good but beaches were best to me.

1

 Yes, it's island

As you know as a traveler, no matter how beautiful and amazing it is, if you see that frequently, you are not going to feel much about it. I applies to other things also... After a while, also I felt that while traveling in Jeju... But overall it was really good.

While wondering around and writing this, it comes across to my mind that I should have come here more earlier... when it still is not that developed. I would be able to see the old houses and sea women diving into deep sea... And more fresh air....

Now, coming and wondering around here is very convenient. And more coffee cafes but I didn't come here for the convenience and the cafes.... I had a chance to come here in 2000... Yes, it's so late... for that...

2

 Continue

: Even now it's not that bad.. how much good it was before... From the sunrise to sunset... Too bad... I should have come here with a person I like... and spend some time here.... And my youth is full of missing things...

: Thinking now, I could see tropical beach before... I didn't need to go to Sebu or Phuket... Only regret left now...

I should have come here more earlier...

Sanbangsan and Yongmeori Coast, Part 3, Hamel Exhibition

In Jeju, you are going to pay entrance fee for any major tour attraction. This is not usual in Korea. This is why the entrance fee is so cheap... The increasing price is a kind of natural process when number of visitors increase...

1

 I didn't expect this but...

I've seen this ship far from there.... And then what? There is a ship... maybe they have some experience program... which was what I thought when I saw first time. And considering the price, 2,000 won, yes, it should be...

Location

As you see, there is a ship... And that is the exhibition for Hamel, a Dutch who came to Korea long ago.... The ship can float on the sea? Don't know...

This is the realization of the ship which Hamel took long ago... And yes, it must have been made from the help of tax paid by the Jeju citizens.

2

 Inside...

: It's a kind of small exhibition. I guess it takes about 15 minutes to see all the things exhibited there. And you can know the story... And he left a diary which tells us now how the life in Chosun dynasty was...

: It's a typical exhibition style. And the view from the ship is not bad. From this, I could see the world is becoming one or similar... This kind of exhibition is not the unique one.... I've seen this kind of things in many major tourist attractions...

In summary, the 2,000 won includes this exhibition... So why not???
