The future of the games at G-Star - Good small-medium sized companies... Part 1

: Through this event, I got to be assured that the quality of games are standardized worldwide. The graphics, the movements, interactions, and the characters... were well embodied on the mobile platform. Some were brilliant.

In other words, the quality I usually see on the games published my major Korean game companies was I saw on the games by the small companies at this G-Star... Somewhat, the quality became a basic for every games should have!!!

The future of games? It can be summarized by those keywords, "Borderless", "Platform free" "Worldwide competition".

1

Not enough time to see all the details of all the games... there..

This day, I've seen the major games and played them. After that, I went to B to B convention halls. And then I've got only 3 hours to see all these games... in which I would see all of them. I expected that there would be about 15 games.. but there were 40 games!!!!

The games were diverse. Some were with brilliant ideas, some were daring and new. And the quality was not bad. It was like boundless competition. Of course, far later there will be small groups of successful companies left like PC games... But now? So amazing... So many different kinds of games...

I felt that, now you can make a game just with 1 notebook computer at home. It's everywhere and not that difficult. Now the market is the world.

Here are the list of the companies I've seen.

 1. Jamong Co., Ltd.

   Crazy Farm

Coming with a word "VR Ground", which is from 'playground'. As you can guess from the word, VR becomes a playground for kids. And this game is playable by non-HMD players. And the game itself is very simple.

You can download the game here

The play video

 2. TINGTAP GAMES

According to the descriptions on the website, it's game-specialized community which is intended for sharing ideas and knowledge, creating games and educating each other. I've tried this, which was quite simple, comparing with other platform. Of course it's not that easy for kids just to learn. It needs a learning curve. On web site, you can make something to interact here. I saw some possibility here to be used as a educational tools for teachers.

The web site address : https://www.tingtapgames.com/academy/list/alone

 Below is the screenshot

It was like a simplified flash, which I felt after using this. Kids can make something for fun and teachers can make some inter-active teaching materials which can be used online. And also anyone can make something small animation or games...

  3. Tevol

 Trivio Puzzle

: The common 3 items connecting puzzle and conquering lands altogether. It needed some thinking power in higher levels. And the theme of the game was good, which is to protect Pelicans polluted by environmental pollution. Quite good and fun game.

Raising, decorating simulation game? I don't know what to say about this game, because I am not interested in this kind of games. According to the description on Google Play, it's a casual game which anyone can enjoy.

But cannot be ignored. It's a Editor's Choice and more than 4 in rating...

It's very popular among girls... being said.

5. Dejavu Studio

PC Cafe in a Strange World

: There were no official web site for the company as far as I checked. Only there is a community cafe page of in Naver.

I took a picture but it was s blurred... I skipped it.

According to the description, it's about managing a PC cafe.

 Raising Axe

: Review rating 4.6 in the 8,000 reviews... amazing!!!

A clicker game... I've come to know of this kind of game here. It was about tabbing so fast to complete a mission.... I thought that this might be a good game for players who don't want to be so serious in gaming...

And this kind of games were made many here by this company.

7. VR games

 Tales Arena

: Now, the website seemed to be under construction.

It can be called a Mobile version of Warcraft or Starcraft. Well made. Good graphic. This can be a good choice if you like RTS genre.

G-Star at 4th Day - Some negative effects from the huge success at 3rd day and the most popular booth, BattleGround(including PUBG mobile)

: It was a "calmed down" situation on the 4th day comparing with the suffocating 3rd day.

1

As you see it on the below pictures...

Standing in line even before it starts. There were so many family group visitors. So the visitors you are seeing on the pictures were just part of them. Actually lots of visitors came after 10 am... Therefore, from around 11 am or 12 pm, it was suffocating inside.

Pictures taken about 9 am on Saturday

After a while, so crowded...

On the 4th day, I witnessed some just giving up visiting and returning. Some just came inside to look around and returned after a while... As a visitor who are going to pay about 8,000 won for this, he or she wouldn't take the risk of boring, waiting in line... with stress... So, on Sunday, the 4th day and last day, it was a little bit calmed down....

I will describe the Sunday like following,

 1. I've seen more father-son pairs than mother-son pair. I've just a few pairs of mother-child(or children).

 2. Around 2 pm, it became very hard to walk around with crowded pack. Yes, the spot was around the "Fortnite" and "Battleground" booth.

 3. Overall far better than on Sunday. Especially at the Google play booth separately place on the 3rd floor. On Saturday, I had to wait about an hour to enter the place but on Sunday, it took just about 20 minutes....

 4. On Saturday, more earlier than expected, the gifts prepared by Nexon were consumed fast but On Sunday, they tried to distribute two basic gifts to each one...

In Summary, the huge success on Saturday influenced the next day negatively.

2

 The most popular booth...

Battle Ground, the booth of the year, 2018

: If I have to choose the best one here, it's Battleground. Of course the main reason is that it has huge user base. But the booth construction is the other reason I chose. Well constructed and the participants were so enthusiastic here and showed some passion. It was a kind of fun to see how they play on the big screen. And the winner among 100 participating players will win 1,000,000 won and Galaxy S9. Spectators are betting who's going to win...

More specifically saying, total winners of all games are 80 players. The winner of each game won 1,000 USD and 1 Gallaxy Note 9. On the last day, the winners of each final stage games of 4 games got 2,000 USD, 3,000 USD, 5,000 USD, 20,000 USD for each and the final winner will get the ticket for a qualification of the "Global Final Match" + Air Flight and Hotel fee.

With just one game, he or she can get that much money for just 4 days!!!! So with this, the other reason is that the Battleground(PUBG) is very popular in Korea... This is reflected directly with the number of visitors.

You can check the mood and matches through the Internet. You can visit by clicking below screenshot.

The future of game - focusing on the games made by small-medium sized companies in Korea, Part 1

: From this event, I became sure that the quality of games are of very high-standard. The good graphics, cute characters, natural movement and the good ideas...

In other words, you can expect the qualities of the games published by big companies. And they are more risk-taking... therefore you can see some good ideas...

The future of games? The keywords for that are "Borderless" "Flatfrom free" "Competing world wide"

1

So limited time to see every games....

I had about 3 hours to see the games presented in the name of Korea Institute of Startup and Entrepreneurship Development! There were many things to see and participate in. I expected about 10 to 15 games but there were total 40 games... What?

Maybe they can be called army of ants, but to me army of David. Some were new and daring. Some had good quality. Some were very simple... It was kind of seeing the booming of venture companies before the dot com bubble...

And also I felt the borders between nations are almost gone... What we need were an idea, network and human resources all around the world. You can make a good game at home... actually. You don't need a building or an office to do that.

And here are some games I've seen.

 1. Jamong, Co., Ltd

   Crazy Farm

They came up with "VR Ground" term. They expand the HMD geared one player game into a game with friends.

 You can download here

 2. TINGTAP GAMES

Tingtap Games, Knowledge sharing service, Community centered idea sharing, Creation, Education...  I tried this platform. It had a learning curve. First it was not easy to understand but after learning, I could see some possibilities. It can be used in many areas...

You can actually try by clinking below link.

I felt like it is a simplified "flash of macromedia". Teacher can make a good teaching material, or kids can make some games for fun with friedns...

  3. Tevol Co., LTD

 Trivio Puzzle

: Blend and Conquer puzzle. Well thought movement is needed to complete a high level mission. In educational sense, it's about saving pelicans which became sick due to environment pollution. It looks simple but not easy...

 3rd day at G-Star - Too crowded...

: I arrived just past 9 am and found so many people waiting in line!!!! And the hell situation inside of the hall was expected.

1

 Yep, it's the G-Star.

It was Saturday. And this day lots of families came here... So I saw many kids... so many kids...

The pictures taken around 9:20 am... And 10 am it opens... After that more and more people were gathering.... Even afternoon, there were people standing in line to buy a ticket.

 It's successful but too much!!!

I put more pictures to get the picture....

Saturday fever? How come? Were there that many people who are interested in games in Korea? Or a lot of people from the cities outside of Busan? Every time G-Star event happens, it keeps breaking records. And also this time... I think. And they will decide to come more earlier tomorrow or just give up? And they think they will be more prepared for the next G-Star? So many thoughts came across my mind.

2

 Inside...

The below pictures were taken about 11:20 am. It's along the way of Kakao Games, Netmarble and Battleground(PUBG). As you see so many people... I guess this Bexco convention hall is experiencing their capacity limit here...

And the participants showed some order in this irritating situation. And the managers also showed very good attitude. Of course there were just a few people got angry... But just few. Most of people try to enjoy...

The Battleground, The top booth in this G-Star

: If I have to choose the best one here, it's Battleground. Of course the main reason is that it has huge user base. But the booth construction is the other reason I chose. Well constructed and the participants were so enthusiastic here and showed some passion. It was a kind of fun to see how they play on the big screen. And the winner among 100 participating players will win 1,000,000 won and Galaxy S9. Spectators are betting who's going to win...

Yes I can say that Battleground is the main in this G-Star....

And they made a stage and upper places both side of the stage where people can see the players playing. It's very good idea...
