The hidden Jem, Dongrae Eumseong History Festival - The best festival I've ever been

: How do I have to start telling about this festival. OK, let's start it with the best one in this festival, the Dongrae Castle War Musical. It was really high quality of musical, which you can see with about 20,000 or 30,000 won ticket. It was so fantastic. The music, performance and the sets almost all were perfect to me. Even I almost cried out... as a man I had to suppress my feelings there...

And I rarely seen foreigners there, just a few... why??? This is fantastic.... why?

 The musical

I came to know that this is a musical by a professional play team. If I am not mistaken, the performance will be on a play. I don't know where...I've seen a poster there. Anyway, the performance is about the war of Japanese invasion which happened there(dongrae eupseong) long ago. It is to remember people and Song Sanghyun, the military official who died while defending the fortress. Usually, if a performance is done in a local festival, row and amateur quality is expected. But this was far beyond my expectations. The actors and actresses did very well and the music was so good. Because of the acting, I could feel the mood there and came to the state that I almost burst into tears...

Why there are almost Koreans... I mean just few foreign tourists there. Why? This quality of performance should be known among tourists... And also as a Korean, I didn't know that... I guess Dongrae didn't do efforts for advertisement enough... which means they focused on the quality more, invested money for the quality... Yes, right. And other performance was also good.

Yes, this was the main performance... main..

 Video

There were other things going on in which you can participate such as making an artifact, tasting some tea, wearing Hanbok(Korean traditional costume) and doing makeup of chosun dynasty.... Among them, the makeup was the best.... which I've never seen in other festivals.

From Busan to Daejeon by Scooter

: "Fantastic" but 10 hour long journey.

In city, Scooter is a way to go faster but city to city, it's not fast way... It cannot enter the highway and motorway... It's illegal in Korea. If you just go and go directly to Daejeon, you might get there in 5 hours. But why you ride a scooter...if you are not going to stop by somewhere and enjoy...

1

  Starting from Busan

Mandeok Mountain Path... it was so good.

If Korea is not a developed country, it would be full of Nature.. fresh air and clean water... But... it's not now... even at the Mt., it's very hard to find living animals... Nevertheless, it's still good in Korea....

 At lunch

: I passed by Busan Campus in Milyang... PNU in Milyang? I didn't know that....

I ate noodle soup at Namyeonsook Handmade Noodle.

It's suburban area.. So the amount was big... And after this, I could go on and on... without stopping... And 5,000 won which is very good price....

Jeonju - Must-go place if you are looking for a Korean thing... Part 2

: So far Jeonju just reminded me of Bibambap(A kind of meal, rice mixed with vegetables and so on), but there is the Old Town in Jeonju. As you know, Korean buildings are made of wood which is the reason why we don't have many Hanoks(Korean house) due to wars.....

1

  Old Town

As you know when you traveled in EU, each city there has an so-called 'old town' and new town. Yes, you can see that in Jeonju here...

Location

Jeonju at night. I got there around 8 pm.. Less people.... It's the gate of the castle.

And here, I could see an alter for Sewol Ferry Disaster even 2 years later...

As you see there are many Korean things as below...

And a view from a pavilion which I found wandering around....

2

 Seonbi and Seongrihak

: Traditions, good and bad altogether. Seongrihak was started from a good intention.. but it was used for ruling people. And the respect for seniors.. parents... went to far. You are going to hear of it... from a tour guide....

And the modern catholic church was there.

And the gate of the castle... It was a big town in Chosun dynasty.

  Old Town

As you know when you traveled in EU, each city there has an so-called 'old town' and new town. Yes, you can see that in Jeonju here...

Location

An old but live town, I didn't expect to see it here. It's not just a cultural heritage, preserving place. It's town where people are living.

The above picture is taken at a spot where you can see the whole town. The below picture is a street in the town.

As much as it gets old, it gets more precious... All around the Korea, the Nature suffer from the development, which I really hate.. so this kind of old buildings becomes more and more precious...

And if you plan to visit here, I want you to use free guide tour. There are several routes and programs for that. What you have to do is just to there in time like 'tip-based guide tour in EU'. But only English and Korean is available. From the guide tour, you will get to know how this town survived and suffered much from the wars, Japanese destruction and so on.

2

Seonbi, so straight and royal... And the Seongrihak

: Seonbi is a Korean scholar in Chosun Dynasty. And Seongrihak is a study branch developed from the Confucionism. Yes, traditions has its good thing and bad thing. Seongrihak is all about ethics, something to do, not to do, to be forbidden and so on... In Korea, it went too far!!

So during Chosun, the science, skills and practical approach were so much under-valued. This was the reason why Chosun continued more than 500 years and also why we suffered from wars by Japan....

Below is the tree which survived more than 400 years...

So, here you can feel Korean everywhere. Hanok means "Korean House", but we mean Korean Traditional House made of wood....
