The undesirable traces of the Korean McCarthyism - Jeju Unification Hall
Still in Korea I can hear the words 'redism' or 'following the North Korea'. This idea has been politically exploited. Yes, just several decades ago, by even talking with a North Korean, we could end up in jail. About 30 years ago, I thought N. Korean were beasts....
1 | Not it's just a building |
I expected to see something about re-unification of the two Koreas but.... it wasn't... it was about anti-north Korea, anti-communism. I went there because it was very close to the Forklore and Nature History Museum...
Location
As you see below, the statue about the soldiers who fought against the North Korea in Korean war. We call the war 6.25 war because it started on the day of June 25, 1950. And it has been a symbol of the anti-communism.
If the name is about re-unification, it must deal with re-unification of the two Koreas.. but it wasn't... I think this is one of the reasons why people stopped visiting this place.

: Now, you cannot enter the building... it seems to me that it's permanently closed. Behind the building there was a training center for Japanese Sword Arts called 'Geomdo'.
: Jeju has a sad history called 4.3 meaning April 3 when lots of innocent Jeju people were slaughtered... in the name of the anti-redism....
